The Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission is a state-wide Joint Action Agency specifically authorized by state law to operate as an electric utility for the benefit of the combined requirements of the members.

Established by six charter members, the Commission has grown to a membership of 69 municipally-owned retail electric systems ranging in size from approximately 230 to approximately 109,700 meters. These municipal and cooperative electric systems serve 347,000 retail customers, and have a combined peak load of over 2,639 MW.

MJMEUC may construct, operate and maintain jointly owned generation and transmission facilities for the benefit of members. The Commission has the authority to enter into contracts for power supply, transmission service, and other services necessary for the operation of an electric utility. Full membership in the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission by Missouri municipal utilities requires approval of a Joint Contract and acceptance by the Board of Directors.

Each member is represented on the Board of Directors by a director and alternate director that are appointed by the member at the time their joint contract is executed. Additional categories of membership may be available for other parties.

Membership in the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission

Any municipally-owned utility may apply for membership in the Alliance.  All members of the Alliance are considered members of the Missouri Association of Municipal Utilities (MAMU) and are entitled to services and expertise provided by MAMU. Full membership in the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission (MJMEUC) or the Municipal Gas Commission of Missouri (MGCM) requires execution of a Joint Agreement, but there is no additional membership fee. 

Many services are available to all members without cost, and a variety of other programs are available on a fee basis.
