For many years, the vision of a strong, versatile and multi-faceted collaboration grew in the minds of municipal utility leaders from across Missouri. In October of 1998, the three member organizations of MPUA voted to combine efforts and resources to better serve their members by coming together under the umbrella of the Missouri Public Utility Alliance (MPUA).

The Alliance is a trade name representing a partnership of all three entities. Each organization maintains its own legal status and Board of Directors. A Joint Operating Committee, comprised of three Executive Committee members from each of the three organizations, provides guidance and cohesiveness to joint issues. MPUA is based on a single dues structure. Fee related services provides for most of the revenue for operations. MPUA affordably delivers a highly valued and broad array of services to its members. The combination of the three entities as part of the Alliance, reduces duplication of efforts; lowers overall costs; and allows for more efficient utilization of staff and other resources.

The Missouri Public Utility Alliance has several classes of membership: Municipal, Associate and Energy Associate.

 

Municipal Membership

Any municipally-owned utility may apply for membership in the Alliance.All members of the Alliance are considered members of the Missouri Association of Municipal Utilities (MAMU) and are entitled to services and expertise provided by MAMU, the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission (MJMEUC) and the Municipal Gas Commission of Missouri (MGCM).Each member municipal is represented on the Board of Directors of MAMU.

Full membership in the Electric or Gas Commission requires execution of a Joint Agreement, but there is no additional membership fee.Many services are available to all members without cost, and a variety of other programs are available on a fee basis. All members receive timely news and information through the monthly Alliance Advantage newsletter as well as other regular mailings. Contact the Alliance office for current dues information. Associate Membership

Associate Membership in the Alliance is available to companies and organizations. Associate Member dues are currently $375 per year. Associate members receive the monthly newsletter, Alliance Advantage, which has a monthly circulation of over 750 managers and municipal leaders. We also offer advertising in the Advantage at very reasonable rates. Associate Members are invited to attend the Alliance Annual Conference and golf tournament in the fall of each year.

Energy Associate Membership

Energy Associate Member is a category of Associate Membership reserved for those in the business of energy marketing. Energy Associate member dues are $1,000 per year and include two complimentary Annual Conference and golf tournament registrations. In addition, advertising in the Alliance Advantage is included at reduced rate.
